Rusty Gate Mountain Retreat has officially teamed up with trail running event specialists Wildrunner to introduce an exhilarating new trail run format at the 2025 Rusty Gate Challenge, taking place on Saturday, 11 October 2025, on the breathtaking Rusty Gate mountainside property between Villiersdorp and Greyton.
Using Rusty Gate’s three spectacular hiking trail loops, Wildrunner has designed a unique clover leaf-style solo and team relay event. This innovative format offers solo runners race distances ranging from 18km to 50km, and relay teams the chance to compete in events spanning 18km to 100km.
What Makes This Event So Special?
Two standout features make the Rusty Gate Challenge a must-do for trail runners:
- Uniquely Crafted Trail Loops
Each of the three hiking loops offers a distinctive trail experience, winding through different areas of the mountain and showcasing Rusty Gate’s immaculately maintained trails and awe-inspiring natural beauty.
- Return to the Heart of the Action After Each Loop
After completing each loop, runners return to the race village at the Eagles Eyrie, Rusty Gate’s beautifully appointed mountainside venue.
- For solo runners, this means seeing friends, family, and supporters every 5–7km.
- For relay teams, it means a chance to rest, recover, and cheer on teammates between loops.
