The much-anticipated Rusty Gate Challenge is back, and this year, we’re excited to introduce the NEW 21 km and 12 km routes that will take you through the breathtaking surrounding landscapes of Greyton.
The 21 km route, featuring a challenging 1,120m elevation gain, kicks off with a sharp 2 km climb up Rusty Gate Pass. Runners will loop through scenic farmlands and special hiking trails to reach the 8 km high point. A thrilling descent to Boskloof Dam follows, then it’s time to tackle another climb back up Rusty Gate Pass. The final leg features a 9 km descent to Elandskloof Gorge, culminating with a 2 km climb back out to the finish. This route is perfect for seasoned runners looking for a challenging and scenic adventure.
The 12 km route, with an 820m elevation gain, starts with a descent into a narrow gorge towards Elandskloof Farm, followed by a zigzag climb. Runners will then skirt the Elandskloof River gorge, leading back to Rusty Gate Dam. The course includes a 2 km climb to the upper farm dam, finishing with a 3 km stretch of single track and farm road running back to the finish. This route is ideal for intermediate runners and those wanting to experience the beauty of Greyton’s surroundings at a comfortable pace.
